How to find mac address for modem?
The MAC address on your modem is commonly used by support technicians to find possible problems with your modem. It is generally found on a sticker on the back or bottom of the modem.
MAC addresses are a property of an interface, or socket. You have 2 such interfaces, or sockets on your cable modem - 1 where the cable from the cable company plugs into, and 1 where you can plug in an Ethernet port. Each one of these interfaces has a MAC address, and just one MAC address.
A MAC (Media Access Control) address is a unique identification number associated with network devices. Each device has its own unique address. MAC addresses are 12-digit numbers often written in XX:XX:XX:XX:XX format, and sometimes written without colons.
There are many ways to find out a device's MAC address, depending on the device type. For example, on a router or a modem, the address is generally on the underside of the hardware itself. Just flip it up and take a close look.
- Click Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center.
- Click the network you would like to view the MAC address for.
- Click Details.
- The MAC address is listed under the Physical Address heading.
Enter the MAC address of the Arris modem. This is either located on a slip in the modem's original packaging or on a sticker attached to the bottom of the modem.
The "wi-fi address" you find in your Touch's settings is actually its MAC address, a unique identifier for all network-enabled devices. Your device only has one MAC address, but can be given a variety of IP addresses depending on which network you join.
The MAC address is a 12 digit hexadecimal number that is most often displayed with a colon or hypen separating every two digits (an octet), making it easier to read. Example: A MAC address of 2c549188c9e3 is typically displayed as 2C:54:91:88:C9:E3 or 2c-54-91-88-c9-e3.
A router is a Layer 3 (Network Layer) device so technically it doesn't have to concern itself with MAC addresses to operate and fulfill it's function. The reason most or pretty much all routers do store MAC addresses is because they offer multiple network ports which operate on switching level (Layer 2, Data Link).
So you should be seeing three MAC addresses on the router one for the local NIC you are attached to, one for the WAN port on the router, and one for the wireless NIC.
What is the difference between IP address and MAC address?
The IP address of a device mainly helps in identifying the connection of a network (using which the device is connecting to the network). The MAC Address, on the other hand, ensures the computer device's physical location. It helps us to identify a given device on the available network uniquely.
Select Run or type cmd into the search bar at the bottom of the Start menu to bring up the command prompt. Type ipconfig /all (note the space between the g and /). The MAC address is listed as series of 12 digits, listed as the Physical Address (00:1A:C2:7B:00:47, for example).

On an Android:
Tap on Network & Internet or Connections > Wi-Fi. Tap the gear icon next to the Wi-Fi name of the Linksys router or node your device is connected to. Tap on MAC address type. Select Use phone MAC.
Wireless access points often use MAC addresses for access control. They only allow access for known devices (MAC address is unique and identifies devices) with the correct passphrase. DHCP servers use the MAC address to identify devices and give some devices fixed IP addresses.
Select Settings > About Device > Status.
A WiFi Address or WiFi MAC Address displays. This is your device's MAC address.
Move the mouse-cursor over Advanced on the main menu and click the MAC Filtering link on the sub-menu. The Advanced - MAC Filtering page will appear. Under the MAC Filters section, enter the MAC address into Add MAC Address field. Click the Add MAC Address button.
A MAC address is hardware ID, unique to an ethernet interface on every network device. The router connects to the BlueYonder cable modem via the router's WAN port. The WAN port's MAC address is shown on the menu Internet Access Setup/Static or Dynamic IP.
